In one sentence, what is it?
An eSIM is a digital SIM card already built into your phone. Instead of inserting a tiny plastic chip, you scan a QR code and your plan is activated. That's it. Really.
Before eSIM, after eSIM

Visually, what's the difference?
A physical SIM is that tiny card. An eSIM is... invisible.
Physical SIM
A plastic chip you insert
Small, fragile, handled with a paperclip. Only one per phone, to swap for every country.
eSIM
A chip already soldered into your phone
Invisible, secure, reprogrammable. You can store several plans and switch with one tap.
SIM, eSIM or roaming? The showdown.
Three ways to stay connected abroad. Only one wins on every front.

What about your home number?
You keep it. An eSIM is added alongside your usual SIM card. Your phone manages two lines: your home line for calls and texts from family, and your ZapSim eSIM for internet abroad. You choose what each line does in settings, in two taps.

The myths we hear (and the truth)
Six common eSIM myths, dismantled one by one.
close Myth
"eSIM is less reliable than a real SIM."
False. eSIM uses the same local 4G/5G networks as a physical SIM card. Signal quality depends on the network, not on the SIM format.
close Myth
"If I lose my phone, I lose my eSIM too."
True, but recoverable. Your QR code stays in your email. You can reinstall your eSIM on a new phone, which is impossible with a lost SIM card.
close Myth
"It's complicated to install."
False. You scan a QR code in settings and tap "Activate". It takes under 2 minutes — no need to be tech-savvy.
close Myth
"My eSIM can be tracked, so it's not private."
No more than a physical SIM. An eSIM uses the same encryption standards (GSMA). It is even harder to clone because you can't remove it.
close Myth
"You need an internet connection to activate an eSIM."
True, but only during installation. Airport, hotel or home Wi-Fi is enough. Once installed, the eSIM works on its own.
close Myth
"If I buy an eSIM, I lose my home SIM."
False. Your two lines coexist. You keep your calls, texts and home number throughout the trip.

Questions people ask us
The real questions, the ones nobody dares ask.
schedule
How long before departure should I buy?
Ideally the day before, but it also works 5 minutes before boarding. QR delivery is instant.
redo
What if I already have an eSIM installed?
No problem. Your phone can store several eSIM profiles at once. You choose which one to use.
refresh
What do I do when I get back?
Nothing. Turn off mobile data on the eSIM and your regular plan takes over again. You can delete the profile at any time.
autorenew

The connection stops. You can top up in one click from your ZapSim account, without reinstalling the eSIM.
family_restroom
Can my child use it too?
